Great Strides, More Ahead
2019 has been an incredibly eventful year for NONDO.
Advocacy, the adage goes, is power in numbers. We have been part of efforts by stakeholders in the disability sector to mainstream the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs). We have made our presence felt in convening and deliberations advancing the rights of PWDs. These convening have centered on health, inclusive education, job opportunities for PWDs, participation of PWDs in governance, among others.
This last quarter saw the organization hold its iconic ‘Desert Wheel Race’ in Isiolo. By twist of coincidence, the day coincided with the historic day when Kenyan legendary marathoner Eliud Kipchoge was attempting to run the marathon in under two hours in what was known as the ‘Ineos Challenge.’ The marathoner did break the record and proved true to the mantra of his challenge no human is limited. On the same day, PWDs battled in the sun and dust of Isiolo County to lend credence to NONDO’s motto that indeed, like Kipchoge, they are able to do things differently. As has always been the tradition, the race was preceded by a successful fashion show known as ‘Beautability’ and a Disability Conference that focused on accessible tourism. This publication is a souvenir e-magazine that primarily focusses on the Desert Wheel Race.
